LISTENING Sub-Test
The Listening sub-test consists of three parts, and a total of 42 question items. All three parts take 40 minutes to complete.
The Listening module assesses your ability to listen to a variety of extracts found in the healthcare environment. This module deals with skills specific to listening to a monologue or dialogue. An extract of general medical interest which can be understood by all professions and the simultaneous completing of a short answer question, gap fill, and MCQs
The listening module is designed to assess a range of listening skills, such as identifying specific information, detail, gist, opinion or the speaker’s purpose and these skills are assessed through note completion tasks and MCQ questions.
READING Sub-Test
Reading sub-text consists of three parts, with a total of 42 (Q) question items. Time allowed 60 minutes to complete all three parts. parts (15 minutes for Part A and 45 minutes for Part B and Part C).
In this module there are three units Part A, B, C. There are various types of text from policy documents to dosage chart or medical journals or academic research articles.
Skills required are Skim, Scan, identifying the key words, understanding the detail, gist and synonymous language
WRITING Sub-Test
The Writing sub-test is a professional specific task based on a typical workplace situation. The writing test takes 45 minutes to complete-40 minutes to write your letter and 5 minutes reading time.
The writing module is centred on writing a formal letter in response to a typical situation at your workplace. The task consists of patient case notes and writing task instructions which are required to be used to write a letter of referral/discharge/ transfer.
Use language accurately and flexibly. Use a combination of complex and simple sentences appropriately.
Use connecting words and phrases effectively. No set limit of grammatical errors allowed
SPEAKING Sub-Test
The Speaking sub-test consists of 2 profession specific role-plays. Each role play is allowed 3mins preparation time and 5 minutes for the role play.
The AIM of the speaking sub-test is to develop overall communicative effectiveness with confidence, throughout the role-play. The interactions are consistent, meaningful, and responsive to the patient’s concerns.
This unit deals with the skills and knowledge which underpin the Speaking Sub-test. The competencies cover two separate segments: Linguistic and Clinical Communication.
